The Asian sale is dominated by Chinese works of art. As Belgium and The Netherlands had strong imports of Chinese porcelain in the late Ming and early Qing periods, these are very strongly represented. A fascinating incense burner depicting the eight immortals, dating from the Wanli period, is just one of those.

In the current market, however, Chinese buyers have also shown great interest in younger works. A massive famille rose plaque from the early 20thC. is set to attract a lot of interest here. It’s one of the largest in its kind, at a whopping 75 x 44 cm. Set in an attractive wooden table, it’s very well preserved!

Another absolute highlight in this sale, yet part of the European ceramics selection, is an extremely rare black Delftware teapot. Black Delftware is the rarest type of Delftware, and one of the rarest groups in the history of ceramics. An estimated total of around 70 examples have been documented worldwide.

A selection of Antwerp maiolica drug jars is also among the highlights of this European section. Antwerp connected the Italian maiolica tradition with the Low Countries, and introduced this future tradition to the Netherlands. This led to the development of the now world famous Delftware.
