When the Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) designed the Festivo series for the manufacturer iittala in 1966, he had no idea that he had just created an absolutely timeless design. The sculptural forms of the candle holder combined with the rough surface of the glass paved the way for design far beyond the Finnish borders. For a long time, parts of the series could be bought at flea markets for a nominal sum. Today, with the tireless popularity of vintage design, Festivo candle holders have reached a new price range, and this trend is reflected in the auction market.

Timo Sarpaneva always strived to instill an artistic dimension in his creations, even for utilitarian objects. Thanks to his work for iittala, his designs have become ubiquitous in Scandinavian homes and at exhibitions around the world.
Sarpaneva was one of the pioneers who put Finland at the forefront of design in the mid-20th century. His designs, which have since become classics, are now more popular than ever.
Festivo candle holders don’t usually appear individually on the auction market. Depending on the size, number and year of manufacture, a batch can cost between $70 and a few hundred dollars. Full, complete sets can also hit four-figure prices.
