Before founding Apple Inc. and conquering the tech world, Steve Jobs was, like everyone else at some point, in the ordinary workforce. A handwritten application form completed by Jobs in 1973, witnessing a period in his life that is perhaps difficult to visualize given his accomplishments, will soon be auctioned online by Charterfields in London.
The form would have been used to apply for an unspecified job, perhaps a general application. Along with his name and birthday, Jobs listed his place of residence at the time as Reed College, Portland, which he attended after graduating from high school in 1972. He dropped out of his English literature studies after a semester, however, and only took a few courses sporadically. The job application likely dates from this period.

The line indicating the year of graduation was left blank, of course, as were the details of his previous jobs. According to the document, Jobs did not own a phone at the time, and although he specified that he had his driver's license, he commented on his access to transportation as "possible, but not preferable”.

In the ‘Skills’ section, the annotations already show his mastery of computers and calculators, while the ‘Special abilities’ (or interests) section displays the headings ‘Electronics tech’ and ‘Design everything digital’. Jobs also mentions IT company Hewlett-Packard (HP), where he landed an internship at the age of 12 after successfully reaching co-founder Bill Hewlett by phone to ask for spare electronic parts.

Jobs started working for Atari a year after filling out this candidacy and, in 1976, co-founded the Apple Computer Company in his Los Altos garage with Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne, whom he met at Atari.
The job application form was last auctioned off in 2018 at RR Auctions in Boston before it was taken home by an anonymous London buyer for $175,000.
Charterfields will put the document up for sale from February 24 when Steve Jobs would have turned 66, until March 24.
