This dynamic rug is the work of renowned Swedish designer Brita Grahn, whose work encapsulates some of the finer points of mid-century design. Characterized by a free floating geometric pattern that rests against the lighter blue color of the field, this geometric and simplistic mid century modern rug showcases the abstract bent that was so popular during this period in an understated manner. These beautiful and unique flat weave area rugs are enjoying a surge in popularity over the last few years. This is mostly fueled by the rise of TV shows like Mad Men that feature vintage set design and interiors that incorporate such rugs.

Persian Qum rugs are particularly known for their fine quality of silk. These rugs feature curvilinear and floral motifs, especially vine patterns, like this romantic and lush piece. From the 20th century, it is in perfect pile condition with no wear or tear signs.

The brilliant yet soft colors of this antique Turkish Oushak rug evoke the colors of a fiery sunset. This breathtaking antique Turkish rug was created at the turn of the 20th century and features many of the design elements that are found throughout the artwork at the end of the Ottoman Empire. This elegant large scale tribal design Oushak is a classic antique rug that will complement and even enhance any interior design.

This magnificent and decorative example was created by the legendary Ziegler rug weavers in Sultanabad. It has a graceful, subdued facade decorated with delicate shrubs and well-defined vine scroll borders. Created during the last quarter of the 19th century, this exquisite antique carpet features a neutral ecru field decorated with carefully placed shrubs and branching floral sprays that are rendered in a stately triad of oxidized blue and brick red with soft ivory outlines.

This beautiful Persian rug breaks from the traditional use of warm tones and instead chooses to define its presence with strong blues and vibrant creams. The powdery cobalt elements in this breathtaking antique rug create a nightscape along the rug’s surface, broken only by the rich ruby borders and soft tangerine hues. A complex series of layers, come together along the blue antique Persian Sultanabad rug borders, drawing one’s attention towards the central field area of this antique Persian Sultanabad rug, where a bright and symmetrical series of flowers elegantly dance against the blue background, as if carried by a wind.

Also from Persia comes this antique Mohtasham Kashan rug, c. 1900. These rugs are named for the master weaver from the central Persian city of Kashan and the style that he promoted, which incorporated architectural elements from the city of Kashan as well as tight weaving, bright colors and precise detail. This rug encapsulates these characteristics with its vivid tones of reds and blues and intensely ornate geometric detail.
