On July 25, Bonhams will host the Modern Design | Art auction in Los Angeles, featuring 236 lots in total, 70 of which originate from two notable collections. The first is 'The Richard Balsbaugh Collection of Vintage Radios,' and the second is 'The Jim Carrey Collection of Modern Art and Design.' The latter consists of 38 high-calibre pieces collected over the past 30 years by the Hollywood actor, who is an established artist himself.

"It's been my very good fortune to be surrounded by many of the finer things in life and I'm always gratified when it's time to let them go so that others may enjoy them as well," Carrey explained in a Bonhams press release.

Design highlights include the Cumulus Table by Joris Laarman (2010), the Lilypad Coffee Table by Paula Swinnen (2014), and the Borghese sofa (2018), inspired by the pine trees in the gardens of Rome's Villa Borghese and designed by French designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance.

Philippe Hiquily designed a console table (1968, in collaboration with Jean-Claude Farhi) and an armchair (1971), both available in contemporary versions. Also up for auction are two pieces by Maison Leleu: an executive desk from 1965 and a three-door sideboard from 1964. The Hummingbird Rug, crafted from hand-woven silk and cashmere by fashion designer Alexander McQueen, will also be on offer.

Artworks on offer include an artist's proof of David Hockney's lithograph Pool Made with Paper and Blue Ink for Book (1980), limited to 1,000 copies, and Kenny Scharf's ICE MONT STER (2014). Scharf, an American artist who pioneered street art in New York in the 1980s alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, created this piece by adding to an existing painting.
