This bronze sculpture of the goddess Bastet, traditionally depicted in the form of a cat, stands as a magnificent example of ancient Egyptian art. Crafted using the lost wax technique, this votive figure dates from the late period of the pharaonic empire (664 - 323 BC), a time marked by the conquest of Alexander the Great and the subsequent Greek period. In ancient Egyptian mythology, Bastet was revered as the daughter of the sun god Re and worshipped as the goddess of fertility. This bronze, accompanied by all relevant acquisition and export documentation, showcases exquisite craftsmanship. Remarkably, one of the original golden earrings has survived until now. Adorning Bastet's neck is an intricately engraved necklace featuring the 'Eye of Horus', a potent amulet believed to ward off the evil eye while enhancing her own visual prowess.
