At the end of October, we reported that the 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition, which was the star of the Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), would go under the hammer at RM Sotheby's in New York. Last Friday, the car, estimated at $1.5-2 million, sold for $1,655,000.

However, the Lamborghini Countach auctioned at RM Sotheby's was one of two used in the filming of The Wolf of Wall Street. While the one sold survived the film unscathed, the second car was destined for a less pleasant fate, as it was used in the scene in which stockbroker Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, repeatedly crashed his high-horsepower darling into parked cars under the influence of drugs. There was no stunt double for the Lamborghini, so the actual 1989 Countach was damaged during filming and is now not drivable.

Nevertheless, the battered Lamborghini Countach also tried its luck on the auction market, with the same estimated price as its intact film colleague ($1.5-2 million.)

The "On the Grid" auction presented by Bonhams took place on November 25 during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. But the bidders couldn't really warm up to the damaged car, film appearance or not, and the bids didn't go higher than $1.35 million. This didn't meet the reserve price, so the destroyed Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition from The Wolf of Wall Street remained unsold.
