全部拍賣 / Ethnographic / Zonder merk - Diorama Natural History - Keichousaurus
Curated Natural History Collection – Keichousaurus, Megalodon, Mammoth Tooth, Fossil Fish & Black Gorgonian – 5 Specimens Five remarkable natural history objects that together bridge almost a quarter of a billion years of history – from the Triassic seas of Keichousaurus to the world of Megalodon and the Ice Age mammoths. This carefully assembled collection combines four fossil specimens with a sculptural, natural black gorgonian. Dark rock matrix, fossil bone, mineralized tooth structures and organic marine forms together create a powerful and versatile Cabinet of Natural History / Wunderkammer. Keichousaurus and Megalodon tooth are the two main eye-catchers, complemented by a juvenile mammoth tooth, a finely conserved fossil fish and an elegant black gorgonian sea fan. 1. Keichousaurus – Triassic marine reptile One of the absolute highlights of the collection: a fossil plate attributed to Keichousaurus, a small marine reptile that lived about 240 million years ago in the warm, shallow seas of present-day southern China. Visible skeleton: circa 18 cm Matrix: circa 23.5 × 16 × 1 cm The elongated neck, vertebral column, rib cage, limbs and tail are beautifully recognizable. The light skeleton forms a strong graphical contrast with the dark matrix. Keichousaurus belonged to the pachypleurosaurs: early, slender sea reptiles that lived tens of millions of years before famous dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus rex. An impressive fossil and a tangible window into a marine world from almost a quarter of a billion years ago. 2. Otodus megalodon – Cooper River, South Carolina, USA An imposing fossil tooth of Otodus megalodon, one of the largest marine predators to have ruled the world’s oceans. Dimensions: circa 9 × 7.6 × 1.5 cm The specimen features a robust triangular crown, a broad dark mineralized root and nicely recognizable fine serrations along the cutting edges. The natural mineralization, growth lines and color variations give the tooth a distinctive character. The Cooper River is internationally known as a classic site for fossil shark teeth. An iconic fossil of one of the most powerful predators in ocean history. 3. Juvenile mammoth tooth – presumably lower dp4 A remarkable fossil tooth element of a young mammoth, whose anatomical features fit well with a lower dp4 deciduous tooth. Dimensions: circa 10 × 4.2 × 4.5 cm The characteristic successive laminations of enamel, dentine and cement are beautifully visible and form the strongest visual feature of the specimen. The size and developmental stage align with a juvenile animal. If the determination as dp4 is correct, the fossil probably represents a young mammoth of about 4–7 years old. The warm brown-orange mineralization and natural encrustations give the tooth a powerful, authentic fossil appearance. There are visible age marks, fractures and possibly local consolidation; these are shown in the photos and belong to the current condition. A characterful mammoth fossil in which the splendid lamellar structure beautifully reveals the complex anatomy of the dentition. 4. Fossil fish on limestone matrix An elegant fossil ray-finned fish, finely conserved on a light sedimentary rock plate. Matrix: circa 13.3 × 7 × 1 cm The spine, individual ribs, delicate fin rays and tail fin are clearly recognizable. The warm gold to reddish-brown fossil structures contrast nicely with the cream-beige matrix. It is precisely this preservation of such delicate anatomical details that gives this compact fossil its refined appearance. The preservation method recalls well-known fine-grained fossil deposits in which fish of the type Knightia occur. Without additional original provenance, the exact species is intentionally not definitively assigned. An elegant natural snapshot of a fish from a water world that disappeared millions of years ago. 5. Natural black gorgonian – Black Gorgonian Sea Fan A beautiful natural black gorgonian / sea fan with an elegant and highly branched organic structure. The dark, almost tree-like form adds height and depth and provides a striking contrast with the fossil specimens. In the presentation, the gorgonian especially reinforces the marine character of Keichousaurus and Megalodon and visually unites the different materials and forms into one cohesive ensemble. The exact species is intentionally not specified without further determination. A natural sculpture from the underwater world that visually unites the entire collection. Five objects – five chapters of natural history Keichousaurus • Otodus megalodon • juvenile mammoth tooth • fossil fish • natural black gorgonian From a 240-million-year-old Triassic marine reptile and a finely conserved fossil fish to a young mammoth from the Ice Age and a tooth of the legendary Megalodon. The strong contrast between dark matrix, fossil bone, mineralized tooth material, light limestone and the organic branching of the black gorgonian gives this collection a distinctive visual character. The result is not a random collection of loose objects, but a carefully assembled Natural History Ensemble with the look of a contemporary Wunderkammer / Cabinet of Curiosities. Especially appealing to lovers of: fossils • paleontology • naturalia • Wunderkammer • Cabinet of Curiosities • natural history interiors The fossil specimens may show natural aging traces, preparation traces and local restoration, consolidation or stabilization. The extensive photos are therefore an important part of the condition description. The complete diorama, including the glass display case, bottom plate and the five natural history objects, is delivered as shown in the photos. Five distinctive objects. Five extraordinary stories.
