The sculpture’s back supports a square upper platform, allowing it to be used as a sculptural support or altarpiece. The piece combines symbolic power and technical refinement, reminiscent of the medieval bestiary reinterpreted by 19th-century Portuguese colonial schools, particularly in Asia and Africa.
