Presented is a rare and well-preserved pair of candelabras by WMF, from around 1887. 2 antique candle holders of the WMF brand with 2 drip-candle holders. The selected object is a pair of ostentatious candelabras in the Neo-Baroque style from the late 19th century. These striking pieces are characterized by their richly ornate repoussé work (raising work), decorated with floral reliefs, typical Rocaille swirls, and curved, multi-tiered bases. Similar historical models were produced by renowned manufacturers such as Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) around 1885 to 1900, both in silver-plated and pewter alloys. Features and designation Style: Neo-Baroque / Historicism with asymmetrical C- and S-scrolls, shell motifs, and plastic Rocaille Material: In these opulent pieces, it is often silver-plated base metal (such as brass or Britannia metal) or, less commonly, solid genuine silver (e.g., 800 or 925 sterling silver). Condition: The dark discolorations in the depressions show natural oxidation (patina) that develops on silver and silver-plated items over the years. AS - desired dark patina The height is 31 cm and the base about 13 cm square. Weight per candlestick: 660 grams. The candle holders are stamped with WMF I/O and, as well as the number 248. See photo.
