VOBECKY (František). — František Vobecký 1902–1991. Fotografie - Photographs. Prague, Pražský dům fotografie [Prague House of Photography] / Published by Kant, 1996. Square 8vo (approx. 25 × 20 cm), paperback, black-and-white illustrated cover, 28 unnumbered pages, lavishly illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Text in Czech and English. ISBN 80-901903-3-2. First edition of the catalog for the exhibition dedicated to František Vobecký at the Prague House of Photography, held from April 4 to 30, 1996. Bibliographic references confirm the 28 pages, the 25 × 20 cm format, and the ISBN. Czech painter and photographer František Vobecký (1902–1991) was part of the Prague avant-garde of the interwar period. After studying in Paris in 1926–1927, notably at the Grande Chaumière and the Académie Colarossi, he joined the Mánes artistic circle. Beginning in 1935, he created experimental photographs and photomontages inspired by Surrealism; in 1936, he exhibited alongside artists such as Man Ray, Moholy-Nagy, Rodchenko, and Raoul Hausmann. The MoMA currently holds two of his photographic works. The catalog features 22 black-and-white photographs, including the remarkable surrealist compositions from the 1930s: *Příliv / Tide / Ebb-tide* (1936), Halucinace / Hallucination (1935–1937), Balada / Ballad (1937), Poetický spáč / Poetic Sleeper (1937), and Nashledanou Jitřenko / Goodbye Morning Star (1937). Text by Petr Krejčí and list of exhibitions. A fine copy. The interior is clean and well-preserved. However, the cover shows some scuffing, scratches, and signs of wear, with a few superficial creases, particularly on the back cover and at the corners.
