Vintage Ring with Untreated Ceylon Sapphire & Diamonds in White Gold, c. 1950

The sapphire in the center of this ring is as light blue as the cloudless spring sky. The natural gemstone weighs around 2.70 carats and shines in a cushion-shaped antique cut. The quality of the gemstone is reflected in its particularly high transparency and only a few, barely visible inclusions. It is a natural, untreated sapphire from Ceylon - the legendary region of origin that is now called Sri Lanka and has been known for centuries for some of the most sought-after sapphires in the world. Ceylon sapphires are characterized by their often pastel shades; they were already prized in classical antiquity and were among the most sought-after gemstones in Europe at an early stage. Ten brilliant-cut white diamonds weighing a total of around 1.10 carats surround the sapphire like small petals. The high-carat white gold settings complement the pastel, fresh colors. The ring is handmade, most likely in a goldsmith's workshop in Germany. Its powerful, closed shape and joy in the use of materials, typical of the period after the Second World War, date it to around 1950. An independent expert opinion has confirmed the quality of the materials. It is supplied with the ring, which is in very good condition.
