Vintage Press & Editorial Photo Archive

Collection of vintage black-and-white press and editorial photographs from multiple publications, newspapers, photographers and press agencies, with many retaining original agency stamps, publication markings, typed or handwritten captions, photographer credits and editorial notations on the reverse. Some were used by Look magazine and bear dated "USED LOOK" stamps, while others originated with various news and photo agencies and publications. Subjects include poverty, Mickey Rooney, Robert Montgomery, President Dwight D. Eisenhower with Robert Montgomery, author Rex Stout, Grace Kelly, the Zog Sisters, and other mid-20th century news, entertainment and human-interest subjects. One photograph of poverty is credited to photographer Ken Heyman and bears Look Magazine markings with a December 5, 1961 "USED LOOK" stamp. A Mickey Rooney photograph is credited to George Zimbel and retains an original caption noting Rooney eating a hamburger during a television rehearsal. Also included is a photograph by Harvey H. Belgin of San Antonio, Texas, depicting Grace Kelly water skiing during Princess Grace and Prince Rainier's 1968 trip to San Antonio. Other photographs include a portrait of author Rex Stout credited to photographer Dale Rooks; Robert Montgomery material relating to his work in television and communications; a March 6, 1954 United Press photograph showing Montgomery with President Eisenhower as Eisenhower prepared to make a radio-television speech; and a Boston Daily Record prize photo entry depicting the Zog Sisters beginning a tour of Boston's historical sites, credited to photographer Lawrence McDavitt. Also included is a photograph of a uniformed man holding a bear, stamped by Barney Stein of the Brooklyn Times Union. Stein later became the official team photographer of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Additional photographs bear credits or markings from Wide World Photos, European Picture Service and other sources. Vintage press photographs are in mixed condition with age-related wear including edge and corner wear, creasing, toning, staining, handling wear and editorial markings.
