It represents the interconnectedness of all life, destiny, and rebirth. Its roots reach deep into the underworld while its branches reach high into the heavens, housing various mythical entities like the dragon Níðhöggr (Nidhögg) at its base and a wise eagle at its crown. Yggdrasil is also profoundly tied to Odin, who famously hanged himself from its branches for nine nights to sacrifice himself to himself and gain the wisdom of the magical runes.
