Victoria (Queen) Signed Licence to Plead, signed by Queen Victoria at the head, embossed papered seal, folding marks, slightly creased and age toned, otherwise a clean example, also signed by Richard Assheton Cross, Home Secretary, verso, and dated 21st February, 1877 *** The document grants English barrister Thomas Campbell Foster (1813-1882), by Royal permission, to provide counsel for James Riley of Hartlepool during his trial at Durham Assizes for perjury.
