Verreries Doyen - Vase - FLORALIES - Rose bowl - Glass

Art Deco “Floraliès” Rose Bowl – Smoked Glass – Verreries Doyen – Belgium, ca. 1930s A beautiful and sculptural example of Belgian Art Deco glass, this elegant rose bowl was produced in the 1930s by Verreries Doyen in Havré-Ville (Mons), Belgium. It belongs to the sought-after Floraliès series and reflects the refined aesthetic and craftsmanship for which Doyen is well known. The vase is hand-blown in elegant smoky grey glass, displaying a subtle, luminous transparency that shifts beautifully with the light. Its compact, rounded body is defined by gently undulating vertical contours, giving the form a floral, almost organic character. The short neck is fitted with its original metal flower frog (included), featuring an attractive geometric lattice design, making it ideal for arranging small, structured bouquets. Entirely handmade, the piece shows the natural variations typical of traditional glassmaking, adding individuality and authenticity to the object. Condition: Very good overall vintage condition, with some small chips along the upper glass rim, as shown in the photographs. These are relatively common and acceptable for this type of rose bowl, as the rim is normally concealed beneath the metal flower frog. The imperfections do not affect the decorative appearance or functionality of the piece. A refined and versatile decorative object, perfect for small floral arrangements or as a standalone Art Deco accent. Its sophisticated smoky colour and sculptural silhouette make it particularly attractive in both classic and contemporary interiors. In the early 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Doyen and his son Gaston established a glass factory in Havré-Ville, near Mons, Belgium. Originally named Verreries Gobeleteries d’Havré-Ville, the company specialized in producing high-quality blown glassware, including tableware, lighting, and decorative pieces. Doyen’s work became particularly renowned for its Art Deco designs, featuring elegant shapes, refined engravings, and meticulous craftsmanship. A notable example is a set of mouth-blown glasses adorned with finely scoured olive shapes and intricate fan patterns, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail of the era. Among Doyen’s most celebrated creations is the “Floralies” series, which embodies the refined elegance of Art Deco design. Produced in the early 20th century, these vases are distinguished by their bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and rich, vibrant colors. One of the most remarkable models, no. 150, crafted in the 1930s, features striking vertical stripes and a distinctive corrugated collar, often produced in warm brown glass. Many pieces from the series still bear the “Floralies” label, preserving their legacy and making them easily recognizable among collectors. Today, Doyen’s glassware remains highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of Belgian Art Deco pieces. Their timeless elegance and historical significance continue to make them prized additions to vintage collections, standing as a testament to Belgium’s rich glassmaking tradition and artistic heritage.
