A beautiful poem included in the ‘Filles’ section of *Parallèlement* (Vanier, 1889). The manuscript bears the notes ‘Parallèlement’ and ‘(Filles II)’ in the margin, and the number II above the title; it is indeed the second poem in the ‘Filles’ section; another note, ‘(Vogue)’, appears at the bottom of the page; the poem did in fact appear in *La Vogue* on 29 November 1886. The poem consists of six quintains. The manuscript contains variations in punctuation compared with the published edition, and a variation in the fifth line: ‘Presque nue et non nue’ (the ‘n’ in the second ‘nue’ overlapping an ‘e’ (which appears as ‘eue’ in the published edition)); as well as some crossings-out: at the beginning of line 17: ‘Et blanc de marbre’, corrected to ‘d’albe marbre’, then (the version retained in the published edition) ‘And moonlight’; in line 26, ‘furieuses’ is corrected to ‘glorieuses’; finally, in the penultimate line, ‘Cast all my pride down below’, the whole line has been struck out. ‘A brunette I have not yet had. I want you almost naked On a black sofa In a yellow boudoir, Just like in eighteen hundred and thirty!”…
