Unworn "Trilogy" Ring with 0.61 ct Vintage Brilliant-Cut Diamonds

“Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the passing on of the flame.” This quote is attributed to the symphonist Gustav Mahler (1860–1911). This statement is particularly apt for this modern ring, as its romantic symbolism follows a centuries-old tradition. The ring was created on our commission and is a beautiful example of the enduring legacy of a classic design that, at the same time, does not deny the era in which it was created. The understated, modern ring band, crafted from high-karat yellow gold, features three sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds with a total weight of 0.61 carats, with a larger center stone flanked by two smaller brilliant-cut diamonds. What makes this ring special is that all three diamonds are vintage. They came to us as part of pieces of jewellery from the 1960s and 1970s that, unfortunately, could no longer be repaired. However, the diamonds were perfectly preserved and of wonderful quality, so we decided to set them in this ring, newly crafted by our goldsmiths. The design concept for the ring draws on the tradition of trilogy rings, which are imbued with symbolic meaning: The number of gemstones in these pieces is meant to symbolize a shared past, present, and future. The diamonds—which, according to legend, are indestructible and thus eternally enduring—stand as a promise of eternity.
