Ulysses S. Grant Signed Naval Appointment

Large-format presidential naval commission signed by President Ulysses S. Grant and Secretary of the Navy Adolph E. Borie, dated March 26, 1869, only weeks after Grant's inauguration as President. The document appoints Thomas Perry a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, with rank from March 12, 1869. Boldly signed "U. S. Grant" at lower right and retaining its large blue Navy Department seal. An interesting early Grant presidential document issued during the opening weeks of his first administration. Presented in a large custom framed display with a portrait of Grant and descriptive plaque. Document exhibits expected folds, toning and areas of staining as shown. Estimate $2,000 - $4,000
