Trinitite, also known as Alamogordo glass, is the glassy residue left on the desert floor after the Trinity plutonium nuclear test on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, United States. It is mainly composed of sand fused by the explosion, whose formation required about 4,300 gigajoules of thermal energy. The material involved in the explosion was overheated for about 2 to 3 seconds before solidifying again. Trinitite no longer contains enough radiation to be harmful. It still contains radionuclides 241Am, 137Cs, and 152Eu due to the Trinity test using a plutonium bomb. The specimen will be delivered in a photo display case with a mat and with information printed on the back about the organization selling it.
