Exceptional original Japanese promotional pressing of The Nice's Ars Longa Vita Brevis, issued on Immediate Records under catalogue number IP-8939. This is the highly elusive white label promo edition pressed on red vinyl—a considerably more specialised variation than the standard Japanese commercial pressing. What makes this copy particularly desirable is the retention of both the original OBI strip and Japanese insert, components that are very often separated from the record over the decades, especially with Japanese progressive-rock pressings of this age. Released in 1968, Ars Longa Vita Brevis was The Nice's second album and an important early step in the development of British progressive rock. Led by Keith Emerson, the group combined rock instrumentation with jazz, psychedelia and classical influences at a time when very few bands were working on this scale. The album contains "Daddy Where Did I Come From," "Little Arabella," "Happy Freuds," "Intermezzo from the Karelia Suite," "Don Edito El Gruva" and the ambitious title suite "Ars Longa Vita Brevis." The extended title work is especially significant in The Nice's development, showing Emerson already moving toward the large-scale classical-rock arrangements that would later become central to Emerson, Lake & Palmer. ⸻ Sleeve (VG+): The original Japanese sleeve remains very presentable overall, with normal light signs of age and handling. The back cover shows visible age-related staining, which has been taken into account in the grading. Despite this, the sleeve remains structurally sound and the artwork displays very well → VG+ OBI / Insert: Original OBI strip and Japanese insert both present and complete, adding considerably to the overall collector appeal. Vinyl (VG+): The red vinyl retains a very nice original gloss and remains a solid VG+ example.
