The Great Retreat: Napoleon's Grande Armée in Russia - 2014

The Great Retreat: Napoleon's Grande Armée in Russia • Military Archaeological Approach: The book is largely based on spectacular finds along the historical retreat route of the Grande Armée through the old Russian Empire. Excavated artifacts such as uniform parts, soldiers' personal items (pipes, coins, razors), weapons and equipment components are meticulously documented and analyzed. • Visual Abundance: A main feature of the work is more than 1,600 largely previously unpublished illustrations. They depict both archaeological finds and historical depictions and documents. • Comprehensive Register: The book contains detailed short biographies or profiles of all 289 regiments and units involved. This allows precise tracing of which contingents – including the troops from the Kingdom of Naples under Murat or German allies – were in action where at what point during the retreat. Condition: light signs of wear on the cover; interior: clean and with firm binding
