全部拍賣 / Ancient Art / Tea-ceremony folding screen with ducks - Mother of pearl
A distinctive two-panel lacquer tea-ceremony folding screen 風炉先屏風 (furosaki’byôbu), decorated with two ducks swimming through blue water, with slender reeds rising in the foreground. Each panel has an open upper section enclosed by a black lacquered frame, fitted with silver-coloured corner mounts. The ducks occupy the right panel, swimming side by side amongst finely drawn ripples. Their richly patterned plumage contrasts with the broad blue ground, which sweeps across both panels in a curved division against black. On the left, tall reeds with cylindrical seed heads rise from the lower edge. The ducks are executed in crushed eggshell decoration 卵殻塗 (rankaku’nuri), combined with coloured inlaid fragments and shimmering details that lend variety to their feathers. Selected reed heads are embellished with lustrous blue mother-of-pearl inlay 青貝 (aogai). The black ground is subtly enhanced with sparse sprinkled gold lacquer 梨子地 (nashiji). The reverse panels are finished in red lacquer, enclosed by the same black frame. Signed and sealed in the lower right corner. Period: Japan – around 1960s/70s (Shôwa period) Dimensions: Height 65 cm, Total width 170.4 cm (2 x 85.2 cm). In very good condition, with minor signs of wear and tiny chips. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition. When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
