Table lamp - Polychrome-painted porcelain / fire-gilded...

Large antique porcelain table lamp in Sèvres style – Hand-painted gallant scene – France – circa 1900 Magnificent, substantial antique French table lamp made of high-quality porcelain in the recognizable Sèvres style. The lamp base is rendered in a deep, elegant pink hue (inspired by the classic Rose Pompadour) and richly adorned with refined gold-tone floral motifs and ornaments. The lamp’s showpiece is the large, hand-painted cartouche at the front depicting a romantic, hof-made scene (scène galante) in which a minstrel with a lute and a lady in historical attire are depicted. The vase sits on a sturdy, ornate foot of gold-colored cast bronze/brass (ormolu), giving the lamp a very stately appearance. Given the substantial dimensions, this is a beautiful decorative object for a sideboard, mantel, or side table. Dimensions: Height to the socket: approx. 54 cm Maximum diameter (waist circumference): approx. 19.5 cm Vase material: Polychrome painted and gilded porcelain (Rose Pompadour glaze). Frame material: Fire-gilded bronze/brass (French: ormolu), decorated with classic ornaments. Condition: The lamp is in an authentic antique state with characteristic signs of age: The porcelain shows, at the extreme upper edge (just below the socket), a few spots with glaze and paint wear (white spots, see detailed photos). This largely disappears once a lampshade is placed. Wear and craquelure to the gilded metalwork in keeping with its age. Note (Electrical): The wiring, switch and plug are original/strongly aged and the plastic housing of the plug is damaged. For safety reasons, the electrical system should be thoroughly checked or renewed before use. The lamp is delivered without a lampshade and bulb, so you can add these to suit your taste and interior. Will be sent with extreme care, double-packed and via registered mail.
