全部拍賣 / Ethnographic / T-Rex - Fossil tooth - Tyrannosaurus Rex - 6 cm - 2 cm
TYRANNOSAURUS REX Premaxillary tooth – Lance Formation, Wyoming, USA 6 cm or 2.35 inches Late Cretaceous | Maastrichtian | about 68–66 million years ago An authentic fragment of prehistory belonging to one of the most famous predators in Earth's history: Tyrannosaurus rex. Hailing from the Lance Formation in Wyoming, one of the most iconic and important places in the world for fossil documentation of the last millions of years of the North American Cretaceous, this tooth represents an exceptional collectible for enthusiasts of paleontology, dinosaurs, and natural history. The robust, characteristic morphology of the T. rex premaxillary tooth testifies to the incredible specialization of the skull of this giant tyrannosaurid. These teeth occupied the front part of the upper jaw and stood out for their particular sturdiness, an integral component of the predatory apparatus of one of the largest terrestrial carnivores known. The Lance Formation is renowned for preserving an incredible Maastrichtian terminal faunal community, offering an extraordinary window into the ecosystem that preceded the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous. It is from these ancient Wyoming sediments that some of the most important Tyrannosaurus rex remains ever studied originate. A PIECE OF EARTH'S HISTORY Holding a Tyrannosaurus rex tooth in your hand means direct contact with an era more than 66 million years distant: a period when Wyoming was populated by giant dinosaurs and T. rex occupied a top position in the food chain. For the combination of iconic species, geological age, provenance from the famous Lance Formation, and distinctive premaxillary morphology, the specimen represents an intriguing opportunity for a private collection, a museum, a Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities), or for any paleontology enthusiast. The tooth presents an overall restoration of about 20%, i.e., part of the tip and some fillings on the tooth. Provenance: Lance Formation, Wyoming, USA Age: Late Cretaceous, terminal Maastrichtian Taxon: Tyrannosaurus rex Element: premaxillary tooth Use: paleontological collecting / natural history
