The present ring offers a breathtaking sight with its precious gemstone setting. At its centre, it features a magnificent antique old-cut diamond from the early years of the 20th century. The gemstone weighs 2.686 carats and displays a warm white colour (K). Its very round shape and excellent proportions suggest a relatively late creation for an old cut, likely around 1920. The historic stone came to us unset, and in this modern ring, we have given it a stage on which its beauty can fully unfold. The modern white gold ring, crafted in the USA, follows the design models of the early 20th century. It was a time when jewellery designers delighted in the interplay of forms and precious materials, and so a fine halo of radiant blue sapphires surrounds the central diamond. Each of the blue gemstones was individually cut to fit the setting in such a way that they form an unbroken circle, standing out beautifully against the cool white gold and displaying countless facets. Three brilliant-cut diamonds on each shoulder of the ring add sparkle to these sections as well. The idea of forming a circle of calibrated coloured gemstones was already described around 1900 as the “halo effect”, as it reminded jewellery designers of the light phenomena seen around some planets in the night sky. An independent certificate from the German Association for Gemstone Evaluation Idar-Oberstein (DeGEB) is included with the ring.
