Stool - Upward-rotating swivel seat - Iron, Brass - Pianokruk

Very beautiful, decorative but also functional piano stool. The stool dates from the second half of the 19th century (likely the last quarter) and is probably from Belgium (around Mechelen). The stool has a metal tilting mechanism under the seat, allowing the seat to be raised to about 60 cm (so that children can also use it as a piano stool). The stool is made of dark-stained oak. The wood is lavishly carved. On the seat is a depiction of Apollo, lying in a floral setting, adorned with a loincloth and laurel wreath. He holds a lyre in his hand. Apollo is master of the lyre. A lyre (or lyra) is an ancient plucked string instrument that resembles a small harp. Apollo is one of the principal gods in Greek and Roman mythology. He is known as the god of music, poetry, healing, the sun, light and prophecy. Very fitting indeed for a piano stool. The style of the stool is actually twofold. The seat is a form of Neo-Baroque; very lush and opulent, while the legs have more of a Neo-Renaissance style, where the image is quite lavish but also symmetrical. At the end of the 19th century (historicism), furniture makers returned to classical themes from antiquity and the Renaissance. Although there is a slight wobble in the tilting mechanism (in the extended position) and also a very slight wobble in the legs, the stool remains very stable and can still be used as a piano stool, but it is a work of art in its own right and will thus also shine in a (classic) interior! The piano stool is carefully packed and insured for shipping.
