Nicholas, est 1893, "The Czar of all The Furriers", 177 Regent Street, London, a large adult flat-skin rug, with flat-head, limbs oustretched, and unusual curled tail, backed onto period brown baize backing material with scalloped border, nose to tail 216cm, across the forelimbs 133cm, across the rear limbs 140cm, the company of George Augustus Nicholas Furriers ceased trading in the latter part of the 1930's, due to the company's heavy national press advertising—which kept them highly visible throughout the 1910s and 1920s—largely dropped off by the mid-1930s, and the onset of World War II in 1939 severely disrupted London's luxury retail trade. Bruton Street and the surrounding Mayfair area suffered bomb damage during the Blitz, and wartime austerity coupled with strict clothes rationing heavily suppressed the domestic market for luxury wholesale furs CITES Annex A, Appendix I (pre-1947 exempt)
