Giant limited edition portfolio of prints for "some of the pictures I like best," according to Sendak's introduction - including gorgeous large-scale images from WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE and IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN. As explained in the The selections, made by Sendak himself, are derived from eight of his books: MR. RABBIT AND THE LOVELY PRESENT, HECTOR PROTECTOR, IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN, ZLATEH THE GOAT, A KISS FOR LITTLE BEAR, LULLABIES AND NIGHT SONGS, HIGGLETY PIGGLETY POP!, and WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. IN THE NIGHT KITCHEN and WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE are the best represented, with four prints each. The signed print of Jennie is here framed; she was the best loved and and most mourned of Sendak's dogs. For 14 years she was his "child, companion, and best friend" (Lanes), and was the inspiration for the star of HIGGLETY PIGGLETY POP!; a full chapter of THE ART OF MAURICE SENDAK is devoted to her ("Jennie: 'The Love of My Life'"). 26.5'' x 17.5'' (box); 10.5'' x 13'' (framed print). Twenty prints, loose in eight folders as issued (organized by title), all within publisher's clamshell box with limitation label (this copy #470 of 500). With Sendak's introduction unbound and laid in as issued. In original shipping carton. Jennie print signed in pencil by Sendak, matted and framed by the Karlebach Gallery. 26.5'' x 17.5'' (box); 10.5'' x 13'' (framed print).
