A scarce signed first edition of Gwynn"s post-war verse, inscribed to aristocrat, writer, and prominent society figure, Lady Gerald Wellesley. In the publisher's original dark blue cloth binding.First edition.Signed and inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper to Lady Gerald Wellesley, dated June 1934. Wellesley was an aristocrat, writer, and prominent society figure, married to Gerald Wellesley, later the 7th Duke of Wellington.A charming collection of Gwynn"s verse, with poems on Ossianic legend, the Woman of Beare, rural life, and the emotional aftermath of war. Several pieces are reprinted from earlier, now-unobtainable pamphlets, "The Queen"s Chronicler," "The Lay of Ossian and Patrick," alongside first appearances such as "Corranbinnie."Stephen Gwynn (1864-1950) was an Irish writer, MP, soldier, and prominent cultural figure, known for his work with the Irish Parliamentary Party and his service in the Royal Munster Fusiliers during WWI. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight shelf wear to extremities. Slight rubbing to boards. The odd minor handling mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge. Very Good Indeed
