全部拍賣 / Vehicles / Shmidt.Art - Mercedes-Benz - MERCEDES-BENZ 300 SL - 1950s
A premium automotive poster dedicated to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing — the groundbreaking W198 sports car that transformed advanced engineering into one of the most recognizable designs in automotive history. This artwork celebrates the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL in an elegant silver-grey finish with a rich red interior, presenting the car through detailed technical drawings, suspension studies, a complete tubular space-frame illustration, wheel and tyre references, an open-door view, engine artwork and precise dimensional specifications. The portrait A1 composition has the character of a historic Mercedes-Benz engineering document created for the era’s most advanced sports car. Engineering Became an Icon The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was developed from the company’s successful racing programme and brought competition-inspired technology to the public road. Its combination of lightweight construction, aerodynamic bodywork, direct fuel injection and high-speed performance made it one of the most technically ambitious production cars of the 1950s. More than a beautiful sports car, the 300 SL represented a new approach to road-car engineering — one where structural design, performance and visual identity were inseparably connected. The Tubular Space Frame At the centre of the 300 SL is its lightweight tubular space frame. Constructed from a complex network of triangulated steel tubes, the frame provided exceptional rigidity while maintaining a relatively low weight. However, its high side sections made conventional doors impossible, leading directly to the car’s legendary gullwing-door design. The poster gives this structure a prominent position through a detailed three-dimensional frame illustration. The engineering study reveals the chassis, roof structure, suspension mounting points and central cabin architecture beneath the elegant outer body. Direct-Injection Inline-Six The 300 SL is powered by a 3.0-litre direct-injection inline-six engine producing approximately 215 PS and 275 Nm of torque. The engine illustration highlights the long six-cylinder layout, mechanical injection system, intake runners, exhaust manifold, cooling fan and period Mercedes-Benz engineering details. For its time, the use of direct fuel injection in a production sports car was highly advanced, helping the 300 SL deliver impressive performance and a distinctly motorsport-inspired character. The Gullwing Door Design The upward-opening gullwing doors are more than a visual signature. They are a direct consequence of the 300 SL’s structural architecture. The door opening cuts into the roof, allowing access to the compact cabin while preserving the strength of the tubular frame. The artwork shows the gullwing doors raised, revealing the red interior and demonstrating how the body, doors and space frame work together as one coherent engineering solution. Purposeful Silver-Grey Bodywork The 300 SL’s exterior is defined by its long bonnet, low roofline, rounded front wings, prominent Mercedes-Benz grille, side cooling vents and smooth rear bodywork. The silver-grey finish enhances the car’s clean aerodynamic surfaces, while the red upholstery adds contrast and highlights the luxurious yet sporting character of the cabin. Front, rear and side views show how consistently the design remains balanced from every angle, while the measured profile emphasizes the car’s compact height and long wheelbase. Detailed Illustrated Composition The artwork includes: Large three-quarter illustration of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL in silver grey Detailed front, side and rear views Open gullwing-door illustration with red interior Three-dimensional tubular space-frame engineering study Front suspension technical drawing Detailed 3.0-litre direct-injection inline-six engine Wheel and tyre specification reference Overall width, wheelbase, length and height measurements Classic Mercedes-Benz grille, side vents and chrome bumpers Archival technical typography and engineering-style graphic elements Compass and scale details inspired by historic design documentation The warm ivory background, silver bodywork, graphite linework and red interior create a refined mid-century aesthetic. The carefully organized technical layout makes the poster feel like an authentic combination of a Mercedes-Benz chassis study, a period workshop document and a premium automotive artwork.
