A remarkable set of two finely executed Mexican figures, fully carved and high-gloss polished from black obsidian. Both sculptures are richly inlaid with various natural materials and semi-precious stones. The figures are crafted in a Pre-Columbian art-inspired style, with bold geometric faces and tall ceremonial headdresses. In particular, the multicolored mosaic inlay forms a strong contrast with the deep black, mirror-like obsidian. For the inlay, materials used include mother of pearl, turquoise, tiger's eye, sodalite, mahogany obsidian, jasper and aventurine, supplemented with copper-colored goldstone. A decorative and finely crafted set of Mexican lapidary handiwork.
