Obv: Radiate and diademed head of Antiochos VIII facing right. Rev: ΒΑΣΙΛEΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ. Eagle standing left, with sceptre over shoulder, date in exergue. Demetrios II’s defeat and captivity weakened the monarchy and intensified its succession struggles. Kleopatra Thea later shared power with her son Antiochos VIII, but their partnership ended when she attempted to poison him and was forced to drink the cup herself. Antiochos VIII survived to rule alone, though renewed dynastic warfare further fractured royal authority.
