Seleukos I transformed his share of the conquered Asian lands into a vast kingdom, secured through military expansion, new cities and royal administration. Two generations later, Seleukos II struggled to preserve that inheritance amid civil and frontier wars as central control weakened. Their issues trace the empire’s passage from forceful consolidation to mounting fragmentation.
