The benevolent face of Gaurī A devotional figure in bronze alloy, cast in the lost-wax technique and finished with a burin, depicting Gaurī, wife of Śiva, as a votive bust emerging from a pedestal turned with concentric profiles. The oval face has half-closed eyelids, a straight nose, and a mouth hinting at a slight smile; at the center of the forehead stands out the incised tilaka, while the lobes are adorned with earrings. Around the neck are two bead garlands; on the back the goddess’s braid is clearly visible, rendered with continuous vertical hatchings. The back is hollow and retains traces of casting earth, evidence of a traditional single pour. An antique brown-golden patina with slight oxidations and wear appropriate to devotional use. The compact construction, the essential modeling, and the rendering of the details point to folk production from the Western Deccan (Maharashtra/Karnātaka), an area where Gauri busts were used in domestic rites and women's festivals.
