Scailmont - Henri Heemskerk - Vase - Glass

Art Deco chalice-shaped vase from the 1930s, made by Verrerie de Scailmont. It is crafted in a light rose-pink pressed glass. The vase features a subtly flaring, fluted rim, a vertically ribbed body, a graceful band of stylized roses and leaves in the typical Art Deco style, and a solid round base. This model can be found in the book “Les Verreries de Scailmont à l'époque Art Déco” by É. & L. Bragard. Verrerie de Scailmont was a renowned Belgian glass and crystal factory, founded in 1901 in Manage (Hainaut) by H.R. Hirsch. The factory played a significant role in European glass production in the 20th century. In 1924 Scailmont opened a special department for decorative glass and appointed several top designers such as Charles Catteau and Henri Heemskerk. This led to the factory’s absolute heyday, employing around 800 glassblowers and workers at its peak. As a result, Manage earned the nickname “La Cité du Verre.” Catteau left the factory to become head of the “Atelier de Fantaisie” at Boch Frères, while Heemskerk (1886–1953) worked there until 1951. He left a deep imprint on pressed-glass production and was the catalyst for a number of iconic designs. Height 27 cm – diameter 16 cm The vase is in very good vintage condition. Air bubbles, glass threads, or mold traces are typical for the pressed-glass production process of that era. They are not flaws but proof that this object dates from the 1930s of the last century. Photos are an integral part of the description. The vase will be very carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
