SALVADOR DALÍ (1904–1989) Set of 7 lithographs from the series Obres de Museu, 1977–1980 Set of seven lithographs by Salvador Dalí belonging to the famous bibliophile edition Obres de Museu, produced in collaboration with writer Josep Pla and published by DASA Edicions, Barcelona, in 1980. The seven compositions display some of the most characteristic motifs of the Dalinian universe: Ampurdan landscapes, Mediterranean architectures, human figures of classical and Renaissance inspiration, allegorical scenes and surreal elements, combining spontaneous, gestural drawing with a line of extraordinary ease. In several of the plates signatures and dates “Dalí 1977” are integrated into the composition, corresponding to the moment of creation of the designs that would later form part of the Obres de Museu edition. Especially interesting are the references to the landscapes of Cadaqués, Portlligat and Empordà, reinterpreted by Dalí through monumental figures, classical bodies, architectures, roads and perspectives that transform the real landscape into a symbolic and surreal vision. The compositions alternate vertical and horizontal formats and exhibit a rich graphic texture, from scenes with a strong figurative component to landscapes drawn with a restrained use of line, demonstrating Dalí’s distinctive ability to combine classicism, the Mediterranean landscape and surrealism.
