Royal Navy, French Revolutionary Wars. 'Prize money' manuscript, HMS Resistance (1801), under the command of Captain Henry Digby ((1770-1842), later Admiral Sir, GCB), respecting the capture of the French privateer Elizabeth, being a deed of attorney appointing James Cole, Purser, and Thomas Burrows, Captain's Clerk, lawful agents, and attorneys for the disposal and sale of the said ship and its contents, registered in Quebec, Canada, 28th October, 1801, [4]ff, being 7 sides of MS, verso of legal document containing a complete list of the ship's officers and crew, with their signatures or else their marks, uniform red wax seal impressions, the sheets now split, sometimes with chipped losses at folds and edges, but no loss of sense, 28 x 38cm Elizabeth, captured by the then Captain Digby in the British North American station, was the final ship captured before the Peace of Amiens (March 1802), temporarily ending hostilities between France, Spain, and the United Kingdom at the end of the War of the Second Coalition, thus ending the French Revolutionary Wars, and subsequently laying the path for the Napoleonic Wars.
