Rooted in the Moor III - Gary Westall

Rooted in the Moor III by Gary Westall Painting 11.8 x 15.8 :: This is the third version of my design ‘Rooted in the Moor’ from the series ‘Happy and Grateful on the Moor’. It depicts a striking tree in the moor whose trunk rises dynamically upwards and is firmly anchored in the ground. The colour scheme is rich in contrast: the tree is rendered in cool shades of blue violet and white whilst the ground is depicted in warm autumnal colours. The background with its simplified tree forms enhances the sense of depth and draws the eye to the main subject. Compared to the previous versions the depiction here is somewhat clearer and more structured. The focus is more strongly on the shape of the trunk and its connection to the ground.
