Rookwood Pottery Contemporary Matte Black Spiral Relief Ceramic Vase 2015

A contemporary ceramic vase by the Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. This vessel features a modernist, teardrop-shaped body that tapers into an elongated, gracefully curved neck with a pointed rim. The body is decorated with a relief-molded spiral motif that wraps around the center of the form. It is finished in a uniform satin or matte black glaze. The unglazed foot rim reveals a fine-grained, off-white ceramic body. The underside of the base contains several distinct markings: a stamped Rookwood trademark consisting of a reversed letter R and a letter P surrounded by 14 radiating flames; the incised shape number 10106 C; and the incised Roman numeral date MMXV, indicating production in 2015. Additionally, the name Rookwood is handwritten in blue ink on the foot ring.
