When you leaf through the catalogs of jewelry dealers from the late Victorian era, one thing stands out above all else: the selection was dominated by romantic motifs. The arrow, for example, is one of those motifs that was repeatedly featured and reinterpreted. The meaning of the arrow is obvious—it is, after all, Cupid’s famous arrow, which pierces the heart and thus awakens love. But how long might this love last? Is it a brief, joyful pain or a lasting happiness? The brooch provides an answer. For the arrow is set with a diamond in a slightly cushion-shaped old mine cut diamond, the so-called “Old Mine Cut” of the early and mid-19th century. Diamonds, as the gemstones of eternity, are a clear choice here: this love will last forever! This beautiful brooch is crafted entirely from 15-karat gold, which has been given a rich, velvety luster through an additional fine gold plating.
