Introduced in 2012, it brought together two genuinely useful complications, an annual calendar and a second time zone, within a design that remains unmistakably rooted in the manufacture’s Oyster tradition. The dial reveals the ingenuity of the system gradually. Local time is read conventionally from the central hands, while home time appears on the off-centred 24-hour rotating disc. The annual calendar displays the date beneath the Cyclops lens and the month through twelve discreet apertures positioned beside the hour markers, with the current month highlighted in contrasting colour. Once correctly set, the calendar requires adjustment only once a year, at the transition from February to March. Equally ingenious is Rolex’s Ring Command bezel. The fluted bezel is not merely decorative but forms part of the setting mechanism, allowing the wearer to select the function to be adjusted before using the crown. The calibre 9001, developed specifically for the Sky-Dweller, coordinates this unusually intuitive system and was among the most complex movements produced by Rolex at the time of its introduction. The present reference 326935 is rendered entirely in 18K Everose gold, from its substantial 42 mm Oyster case and fluted bezel to the full Oyster bracelet. The warm tone of the metal is particularly elegant against the light dial, giving this technically ambitious watch a more classical character despite its considerable mechanical complexity.
