Adult animals have no spots. The white to yellowish torso spot is clearly visible. In males this spot is relatively inconspicuous in summer. The nose is black and the chin is white. The tail is rather small (two to four centimeters long) and only visible during defecation. In winter, on the female, the roe deer, a tuft of white hairs between the hind legs points backward—the apron. It resembles a tail, but it is not one. The adult male, the buck, has a simple antler, usually consisting of two to three points (tines). Roe deer bucks with four to five points are exceptions. The antler is usually about 25 centimeters long. Each year between October and January a new antler grows and the old antler falls off. The antler grows under a velvet skin which, when the antler is fully grown between March and June, loosens and is worn off. Occasionally there are also roe deer does with antlers. When the antlers have not yet branched, they are called a buck or that set of antlers a spike. A fork has one fork; this is common at around two years of age. The number of branches is no indication of age: even a one-year-old buck, a yearling, can already have a forked antler or an antler with six points. Because this is a real natural skull, it may contain a few minor cracks and gaps... in both the skull and the antlers! also teeth or molars may be loose and/or fall out This is normal.
