He founded the Benedictine order and is considered the father of Western monasticism. Born in Italy, he withdrew at a very young age into a life of prayer, meditation, and asceticism. His wisdom quickly attracted disciples, and he founded several monasteries, including the famous Monte Cassino. He is the author of the Rule of Saint Benedict, a fundamental text that organizes monastic life around simple principles: prayer (ora), work (labora), discipline, and humility. It is often worn or placed in a space to guard against evil and negative influences.
