POSTER. Early Posters in Europe and the United States. A Catalog of Holdings. Volume 3: Germany. Part 1: Text. Berlin, Gebr. Mann Verlag, 1980. Folio, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. An important reference work devoted to the history of the poster in Germany as part of the extensive documentary project *Early Posters in Europe and the United States*, undertaken to catalog and study the earliest examples of poster art in Europe and the United States. This third volume is dedicated to Germany and brings together the textual portion of the catalog, serving as a fundamental research tool for the study of historical posters and modern visual communication. The book systematically presents the works cataloged, their creators, their creative contexts, their technical characteristics, and the major aesthetic movements that have shaped the development of the German poster since the late 19th century. It sheds light on the emergence of a new graphic language, closely linked to the rise of industry, commerce, exhibitions, and modern advertising. Published by the Berlin-based Gebr. Mann Verlag, a Berlin-based publisher renowned for its works on art history, architecture, and the graphic arts, this volume serves as a first-rate documentary resource for poster historians, curators, librarians, and specialized collectors. It accompanies a separate illustrated volume, to which it refers for the illustrations accompanying the entries described. This copy consists of the text volume alone, preserved in its original hardcover binding with dust jacket. The hardcover and dust jacket are in excellent condition. A reference work on the early history of the German poster, indispensable for the study of the history of advertising, graphic design, and the decorative arts in the modern era.
