POPSAN - Pac-Man on the Tokaido (東海道のパックマン) - UNIQUE WORK

THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1 In this landscape format, Popsan releases Pac-Man, Namco's yellow hero, into the main street of a relay village on the Tōkaidō. In the background, snow-capped Mount Fuji rises under a deep blue sky. With mouth wide open, Pac-Man moves to the right and swallows a line of yellow pac-gums. Behind him float Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde, the ghosts red, pink, sky blue and orange, each above its shadow. On the left, a traveler wearing a straw hat tilts backward, arms raised, dropping his bundle and his staff. On the right, a man in an indigo kimono hides behind a curtain marked 宿 and watches the procession go by, eyes wide. Further along, carriers continue their journey among wooden houses, stalls and signs 茶, やど and だんご. At the very top, the arcade cabinet display remains lit: 1UP in red, HIGH SCORE, Pac-Man’s lives and his four pursuers. A tall vertical cartouche bears 東海道. The whole composition plays with indigo, beige, pine green and bright yellow. The arcade game seems to have always been part of the journey. A lively piece full of humor, ideal for bringing a retro and Japanese touch to the interior of a video game and pop art collector.
