Pierre Marie Stanislas Guérin du Rocher - Histoire...

Rare two-volume set of this edition of ancient history and biblical interpretation in which Pierre Marie Stanislas Guérin du Rocher seeks to reexamine the legendary narratives of ancient civilizations in order to extract what he considers historical truth - Priest and scholar, the author defends a thesis characteristic of certain currents of religious thought of the eighteenth century: the mythological traditions and the fabulous histories of ancient peoples would have preserved, under transformed or distorted forms, events and characters whose true origin would be found in the narratives of Holy Scripture - Far from considering myths as mere poetic inventions, Guérin du Rocher therefore undertakes to confront them with biblical chronology, with the genealogies of peoples and with the traditions transmitted since Antiquity, in the hope of restoring a continuity between the early times of humanity and the great historical civilizations - Pierre Marie Stanislas Guérin du Rocher - True History of Fabulous Times; Work which, by unveiling the truth that fabulous histories have distorted or altered, serves to illuminate the antiquities of peoples, & above all to vindicate sacred history - 1776 - Vol I and II - Charles Pierre Berton - 463 : 598 Pages.
