PHILIPPINES. Philippine Tuberculosis Society Charity Races Bronze Medal, 1940. NGC MS-64 Brown. Honeycutt-301 (Plate medal). Dimensions: 48 x 28 mm. By C. Zamora. Red enamel. Obverse: Radiant Cross of Lorraine flanked by date "19 - 40", thoroughbred head above, two-line inscription between "PTS/ CHARITY RACES", number stamp below "183"; Reverse: Blank, stamped "C ZAMORA" at lower right edge. Wholly original looking and very attractive, this nicely preserved example displays lovely rich mottled chocolate brown and mocha patina. The red enamel is intact and that numbers at the base are boldly applied. A lovely example of the type with a pleasing appearance and good eye appeal. The Philippine Tuberculosis Society, was in large part, funded by charity sweepstakes and national grand derby horse racing. Several organizations such as the Manila Jockey Club supported these events and helped to bolster public interest with major ticket sales and other advertisements, but were paused due to World War II.
