Pentti Sarpaneva – Turun Hopea - Finnish brutalist bronze pendant with purple amethyst – Auringonkehrä or 'Sun-wheel motif' – circa 1974 Special and very characterful vintage bronze pendant with chain, designed by the renowned Finnish designer Pentti Sarpaneva. The large circular pendant has a diameter of 6 cm and is executed in Sarpaneva’s recognizable sculptural and brutalist-modernist vocabulary. The openwork design consists of strong, organic relief structures that radiate from the center outward and are alternated with curved and concentric elements. The deep dark areas in the relief beautifully contrast with the warm gold-bronze tones of the metal and give the pendant a pronounced three-dimensional character. Centered is a fine purple amethyst. The natural color nuances and texture of the stone form a particularly beautiful contrast with the patinated bronze. The pendant is worn on a robust matching bronze link chain, giving the piece the look of a typical Scandinavian statement jewelry piece from the sixties and seventies.
