Pair of Thai female figures with attributes – Bronze –...

For sale is this exceptional set of two richly decorated bronze figures in a Thai or Southeast Asian style, from an inherited collection of Asian art and decorative objects. The two slender female figures are similarly designed and wear long, highly detailed traditional garments. Floral and geometric patterns cover large parts of the clothing. Head, neck, and ear jewelry are also crafted in relief. Particularly striking is the differing posture of the two figures. In one figure, the extraordinarily long hair is lifted with one hand over the head and falls in a large arc to the side, down quite far. The other hand is lowered. The other figure holds before the torso a large, relief-structured, leaf- or fan-shaped attribute. The second arm is raised to the side, with the index finger pointing upward. A precise designation of this attribute is intentionally omitted, as its original symbolic meaning cannot be definitively determined from the depiction. Both figures stand on multi-tiered bases adorned with lotus leaf ornaments. One figure is additionally placed on a black oval presentation base. The bronze possesses a predominantly dark brown to black patina. In places there are clearly greenish-blue oxidation and patina traces, especially around the feet and bases. Dimensions & weight: Height each approx. 33 cm, Width approx. 10 cm, Depth approx. 9 cm, Total weight approx. 2.934 g (2.934 kg). Material: Bronze. Quantity: 2 figures. Style/Origin: Thailand / Southeast Asia. The condition is used and shows noticeable age- and wear-related traces. Present are patina, oxidation traces, discolorations, abrasion, scratches and deposits as well as minor casting and surface irregularities. Stronger patina and, in places, light deposits are particularly visible on the bases. The black additional base also shows signs of use and scratches. A precise dating and a final art-historical classification of the depicted figures has not been performed. The figures are therefore not offered as “antique.” The photos are part of the condition description.
